SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team fell to #RV Hardin-Simmons, 57-54, in their 2025-26 home opener on Monday night inside Memorial Gymnasium. Texas Lutheran falls to 4-3 on the season.
Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) led the Bulldogs with 14 points, including 6-of-6 from the free throw line, and added seven rebounds, and five assists. Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Bulldogs started slow - shooting 26.7% but only trailed 16-14 after the first quarter. The shooting woes continued in the second quarter as TLU shot 14.3% yet only trailed by six entering the locker room.
Texas Lutheran came alive in the third quarter, shooting 70% from the field in the third quarter. Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) led the Bulldogs with five points and four assists in the quarter while Sansano added five points of her own. The Bulldogs outscored the Cowgirls 18-14 to shrink the deficit to two entering the fourth quarter.
The Cowgirls led by as many as seven points in the fourth quarter but the Bulldogs were able to hang around as a majority of the period was a one possession game. Davi'Yanna Jones nailed a three with 19 seconds remaining to make it a two point game. Following the Cowgirls splitting a pair of free throws, the Bulldogs had a chance to win it at the buzzer but the game winner rimmed out.
Turnovers proved to be the difference as Hardin-Simmons forced 18 TLU turnovers leading to 17 points while TLU forced just eight turnovers, leading to eight points.
