SAN ANTONIO, Texas --
Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) scored 18 points and dished out four assists, but the #RV Texas Lutheran women's basketball team fell to Trinity (TX) 78-70 on Friday at Calgaard Gymnasium in San Antonio.
Jaidyn Treviño (Austin/Akins) came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points, while
Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) had 11 points and four assists.
Trinity scored on a lay up on their opening possession but the Bulldogs immediately responded with a three from Sansano to get on the board. Despite the Tigers shooting nearly 70 percent from the field and making five threes in the opening quarter, the Bulldogs only trailed by two entering the second quarter thanks in part to nine early points from Sansano.
Back-to-back threes from the Tigers stretched their lead to eight to open the second quarter. The Tigers led by as many as ten points in the quarter but efforts from Treviño and
Emerald St. Laurent (The Woodlands/The Woodlands) shrunk the lead to five entering halftime.
The Tigers hot shooting continued after halftime but an increased defensive intensity from TLU saw the Bulldogs trim the lead to two entering the fourth.
The Bulldogs took an early lead but poor shooting doomed them in the final quarter as they shot just 3-of-18 (16.7%) from the field and were outscored 14-8 in the final period by the Tigers.
Texas Lutheran returns to action on Wednesday, December 10 against Mary Hardin-Baylor at Memorial Gymnasium. Wednesday's game will act as the Bulldogs Christmas/Ugly Sweater game.
