#RV TLU Surges Past Occidental, 75-54

LOS ANGELES, CA -- #RV Texas Lutheran put on a show in Los Angeles as they shined bright in the City of Angels as they propelled past Occidental, 75-54, on Monday night at Rush Gym in the final game of their California road trip.

Senior Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) continues to lead the TLU offense, finishing with her third double-double in five games this season with 20 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, and a block. The forward shot 9-of-15 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the free throw line for her first career 20-point game and first time going for 20 points and at least 15 rebounds in the Bulldogs (4-1) 21-point win. The Tigers drop their first game of the season with no answer for the Bulldogs big.

Redshirt junior Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) nearly joined her in club double-double with ten points (4-of-9 FG) and eight rebounds to go with three assists. Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) stuffed the staff sheet with eight points, six rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

The Bulldogs won the battle on the boards, securing 47 rebounds to Occidental's 30.

TLU got out to a hot start, starting the game on a 11-2 run and would hold a 21-13 lead after the first quarter. Sarahi Jones accounted for eight of the Bulldogs 21 points in the period.

Texas Lutheran limited the Tigers to 23-percent from the field in the second quarter to stretch their lead to 21 points entering the locker room.

Both teams came out of the locker room ice cold, shooting a combined 8-of-29 as the Tigers were able to shrink the TLU lead to 17 entering the fourth quarter.

Sarahi Jones and Hannah Gallegos (San Antonio/Harlan) acted as the closers for TLU, scoring six points each in the fourth to secure two wins in California and guarantee a happy flight home.

Next up, Texas Lutheran enjoys over a week off before concluding their month-long season opening road trip by traveling to Belton to face #25/RV Mary Hardin-Baylor on Nov. 30. Tip-off is set for 3 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
