ABILENE, Texas --
Reece Deitrick (Austin/Canyon) threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns,
Lavonta Henry (San Antonio/Madison) caught both touchdowns for his only receptions for a total of 64 yards,
Kibreante Williams (Victoria/Victoria West) ran for 74 yards and a score as Texas Lutheran romped past a mistake-prone McMurry 42-13 Saturday night in Abilene. With the win, Texas Lutheran clinched their spot in the 2025 SCAC Championship game in Little Rock.
Deitrick also rushed for 19 yards and a touchdown and
Caleb Camarillo (Gonzales/Southside) returned a kickoff 98-yards for a touchdown for the Bulldogs (5-3, 4-0 SCAC), who forced five turnovers on the night.
Texas Lutheran continues to roll through the SCAC, compiling an 11-1 record since the return to SCAC football last season.
Texas Lutheran finished the game with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Along with a slew of turnovers, the War Hawks were 1-of-10 on third down.
Deitrick opened the game with an interception of his own but McMurry would give the ball right back as
Sebastian Walker (San Antonio/Veterans Memorial) recovered a fumble for the Bulldogs. The two teams would trade stalling drives before TLU scored 10 points in the final 90 seconds of the first quarter. An
A'Jean Augustine (Houston/Lamar) field goal opened the scoring for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs made the War Hawks pay for their mistakes the second time around as they turned a
Justin Navarro (Edinburg/Robert Vela) interception into a
Kibreante Williams rushing touchdown to take a 10-0 lead. A three-and-out to start the second quarter turned into a 47-yard passing touchdown from Deitrick to Henry to extend the lead to 17-0.
After a McMurry field goal to cut the lead to 17-3,
Caleb Camarillo immediately responded with a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown, the first of his career. McMurry marched down and scored the following drive to make it 24-10 and to keep the game from initially getting out of hand.
Deitrick found Henry again in the closing moments of the second half as the Bulldogs carried a 31-10 lead into the locker room.
Texas Lutheran's defense took care of the rest, limiting the War Hawks to three points and 83 yards in the second half.
Owen Garcia (Austin/Connally) led the Bulldogs with nine tackles while
Marvin Farris (Rosenberg/Lamar Consolidated) added seven solo tackles.
Troy Tomaselli (Castroville/Cornerstone Christian) and
Malik Johnson (Paris/Paris) also had interceptions on Saturday.
The Bulldogs will conclude their traditional regular season schedule next Saturday in the first of back-to-back weekends in Arkansas as they travel to Batesville, AR, to face Lyon College. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on
