Suarez's Brace Caps Career Weekend, Bulldogs off to Best Start to Conference Play in Program History

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran is off to its best start in conference play since becoming an NCAA institution in 2000, winning its first four SCAC games of the year following a 3-0 victory over Hendrix College Sunday afternoon at Gustafson Field.

As she did in the Bulldogs' (6-3, 3-0 SCAC) last game, Ashlyn Suarez (Schertz/Clemens) led the Bulldogs offensively with her second brace of the weekend and of her career. The senior defender entered the weekend with three career goals before scoring four this weekend and currently sitting as the Bulldogs leading scorer in 2025 with five goals, ranking third in the SCAC.

Bulldogs fans got a bit of deja vu as Ella Alvarado (Driftwood/Johnson) and Suarez connected on a goal scoring corner kick to get the Bulldogs on the board in the 39th minute. The Bulldogs put a ton of pressure on in the first half, peppering the Warriors goalkeeper with 12 first half shots while holding Hendrix to four shots, with two on target.

The Bulldogs increased their lead early in the second half as Alyssa Ibanez (San Antonio/Judson) scored her first goal of the season via an assist from Noelani Ajel (Cibolo/Steele) at 50:16.

Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill) continued her quarterbacking of the TLU offense on Sunday as she connected with Suarez for Suarez's second goal of the match on a corner kick to increase the TLU lead to 3-0 in the 72nd minute. With the assist, Brame matched her season total from last season with eight assists and tied TLU Hall of Famer Casey Rheman for third all-time with 20 career assists, becoming just the fourth Bulldog to reach the 20 assist mark.

The shutout is TLU's third of the season with goalkeeper Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) making three saves in goal.

The Bulldogs outshot the Warriors by a 19-5 clip and had a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Texas Lutheran will travel to University of Dallas on Sunday, Oct. 12 as they take on the Crusaders at 12 PM. The match will be broadcast on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
