Fonseca's Brace Leads Texas Lutheran to 5-0 Shutout

IRVING, Texas -- Sophomore Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen) recorded her second brace of the season and of her career to lead Texas Lutheran to a 5-0 shutout victory over Dallas on Sunday afternoon from Crusader Field in Irving, Texas.

The shutout was the third clean sheet in their last four matches and fourth of the season for Texas Lutheran, which improved to 7-3 on the year and 5-0 in SCAC play. Dallas dropped to 3-8-1 and 2-3-1 in the SCAC.

Fonseca scored goals in the 37th and 80th minutes for her third and fourth goals of the season.

Sophomore Lilly Noblett (San Antonio/Warren) bagged her fourth goal of the year in the tenth minute after being set up by Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) and Madison Herrera (San Antonio/Madison).

A free kick from Klarissa Martinez doubled the TLU lead as she was able to drive the free kick attempt past the Crusaders keeper to make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute. Just four minutes later, Aliyah Fonseca added on to the Bulldogs lead as she flicked a cross from Ariana Gomez (San Antonio/Randolph) that was set up by Kristina Cromwell (Spring/Klein Collins) into the back of the net.

Leading 3-0 at halftime, Texas Lutheran added to its lead in the second half following a 73rd minute red card on the Crusaders. TLU took advantage of the Crusaders being down a player as Ella Alvarado (Driftwood/Johnson) found Fonseca to complete her brace in the 80th minute.

Freshman Madison Herrera put the finishing touches on the rout with her first career goal of the season in the 87th minute via an assist from Brooklyn Keily (Round Rock/McNeil).

Junior Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop), sophomore Skylar LeBlanc (League City/Clear Falls), and freshman Alexis Morrison (Cedar Park/Vista Ridge) combined for the shutout. Texas Lutheran was credited with one team save as Marquez blocked the Crusaders lone shot on goal in the 20th minute to ensure the clean sheet.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Southwestern with the match scheduled to kickoff at 7 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
