Volleyball Sweeps Centenary

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball was absolutely dominant in their sweep of Centenary, 25-12, 25-13, 25-11, on Friday at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (5-9, 2-3 SCAC) had their highest single-match hitting percentage this season with a .365 hitting percentage.

Addison Gallegos (Pleasanton/Jourdanton) dished out 22 assists and added four digs, while quarterbacking the Bulldogs to an efficient night.

Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace) finished with 12 kills and five blocks, and hit .688, the fifth highest hitting percentage with a minimum of 12 kills in program history and the highest hitting percentage since 2010 with the 12 kill minimum. Maselina Tuufuli (St. Hedwig/Steele) added nine kills and three blocks with a .563 hitting percentage. Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) had eight kills and Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) added four kills on just seven swings. Richelle Guerra (Brownsville/Rivera) finished with a career-high four aces to go along with 14 digs.

The Bulldogs started the match hitting .333 in the first set and winning 25-12. The offense was balanced as well, with Lozano-Lomeli posting five kills, while Tuufuli had four and Dunn added three.

Texas Lutheran kept hitting well and limited the Ladies offense, hitting .400  on 30 attacks while the Ladies hit 0.00, winning the set 25-13. The Bulldogs cruised for the set win to take a 2-0 lead in the match, leading 9-1 to start the set and never looking back. Tuufuli led with five kills while Ely and Lozano-Lomeli added four each.

The Bulldogs hitting percentage dipped to .368 in the third set but despite that drop off, Texas Lutheran still rolled to a 25-11 win to complete the sweep.

Texas Lutheran will play in two matches tomorrow at Memorial Gymnasium as a part of their SCAC Divisional weekend starting with a 2 PM match against Ozarks (AR) followed by undoubtedly the latest volleyball start in Memorial Gymnasium in program history, a 9:30 PM match against LeTourneau Saturday night.
