SEGUIN, Texas -- For the fifth time this season, Texas Lutheran earned a multi-goal shutout, dropping Schreiner, 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Gustafson Field.
Texas Lutheran struck early and often before
Lilly Noblett (San Antonio/Warren) scored her sixth goal of the season via assists from
Natalia Cortez (Edinburg/Robert Vela) and
Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) to give TLU a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute.
The Bulldogs totaled ten shots in the first half alone but just one goal to show for it. Things changed quickly in the second half, however. In the 58th minute,
Kristina Cromwell (Spring/Klein Collins) and
Klarissa Martinez set up
Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill) to send one past the Mountaineers keeper.
With her second assist, Martinez joined Brame as the fifth Bulldog in program history to reach the 20 career assist mark. Martinez is now tied for fourth all-time in the category with TLU Hall of Famer Casey Rheman and trails Brame by one assist for second all-time.
Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen), the reigning SCAC Offensive Player of the Week, made the Bulldogs final goal happen in the 78th as she took on the Mountaineer defense to score her fifth goal of the season.
TLU finished with 20 shots and allowed just four shots with just two being on frame.
Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) and
Alexis Morrison (Cedar Park/Vista Ridge) shared the shutout, the Bulldogs sixth of the season.
Texas Lutheran improves to 9-3-1 on the year and 6-0-1 in the SCAC. Schreiner drops to 3-8-1, 2-5-1.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Belton to face Mary Hardin-Baylor with the match scheduled to kickoff at 7 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available onÂ
