Volleyball Wins at Concordia (TX)

The Bulldogs bounced back with a four-set win over the Tornados on Friday night.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball bounced back with a four-set win over Concordia (TX), 25-19, 25-14, 18-25, 25-22, on Friday at the Concordia Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs (8-10, 5-3 SCAC) hit .258 in the match, finished with seven blocks and held the Tornados to a .172 hitting percentage.

Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) had a stellar night, with a career-high 17 kills. She posted her first career double-double with 12 digs.

Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) added nine kills and ten digs, while Briana Salvatierra-Moore (San Antonio/Antonian College Prep) finished one kill shy of her career-high with eight kills and led the team with four blocks. Richelle Guerra (Brownsville/Rivera) finished with a team-high 24 digs and added two aces and four assists. Freshman Taylar Thompson (San Antonio/Warren), who got her second career start on Friday, pitched in with a career-high six kills and three blocks.

Addison Gallegos (Pleasanton/Jourdanton) dished out a career-high 27 assists and added 11 digs for third straight double-double. Naomi Gamboa (San Antonio/Warren) had a nice night with 15 assists, seven digs, and an ace.

The Bulldogs hit .351 to open the match with a 25-19 win. Ely led the way with five kills and .250 hitting percentage.

Texas Lutheran grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-14 win in the second set. The Bulldogs hit .216 in the set and held the Tornados to a .000 hitting percentage. Ely added four more kills in the second set to lead the Bulldogs.

Concordia (TX) battled back in the third set, hitting .289 to win it 25-18 and send the match to a fourth set. The Bulldogs trailed for the majority of the set despite hitting .281.

Ely, Dunn, and Salvatierra-Moore had four kills each in the fourth set to lead Texas Lutheran to a 25-22 win.

The Bulldogs will have an eight-day layoff before returning to Memorial Gymnasium to host McMurry on Oct. 18. The match is scheduled for 1 PM and will be broadcast on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
