SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran capped their opening weekend of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Austin College on Sunday. Texas Lutheran improves to 6-3-1 and 2-0 in the SCAC play while Austin College moves to 6-2-2 and 0-2 in the SCAC.
With the 6-3-1 record, it is the best ten game start under head coach Kerwin Johnson and the best ten game start since 2019's 6-3-1 start.
Junior defender Ashlyn Suarez (Schertz/Clemens) scored the game-winner in the 25th minute for the first goal of her collegiate career. Suarez found the back of the net following a corner kick from Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill), who earned her fourth assist of the season on the goal.
Junior Bianca Ruiz (New Braunfels/Canyon) added a second goal in the 83rd minute, her first of the season and first as a Bulldog after a dish from freshman Lilly Noblett (San Antonio/Warren). The Bulldogs were relentless in the first half of play totaling ten shots while holding Austin College to just one. In total, TLU out shot Austin College 24-4 with an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) only needed to make one save on the afternoon, picking up her second solo shutout of the season as the Bulldogs handed the 'Roos their second straight loss.
The Bulldogs will take their four game win streak to rival Trinity on Friday, Oct. 11 in a rematch that will count against their conference records after tying each other earlier this season in non-conference action. The match is slated for a 7:30 PM kickoff in San Antonio. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
