LONGVIEW, TX -- Sophomore guard Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) registered 11 points and a career-high 9 rebounds for Texas Lutheran men's basketball in the LETU Classic on the campus of LeTourneau University, but the Bulldogs fell 79-67 to LeTourneau Friday night at Solheim Arena.
Texas Lutheran moved to 1-2 on the season while LeTourneau improved to a 1-0 start to their campaign.
Isaac Orozco (Helotes/O'Connor) joined Phillips in double figures with a career-high 10 points, going 3-of-8 from the field and adding two steals. Garrett Prince (San Antonio/MacArthur) added 9 points while Jamir Mason (Pearland/St. Thomas Episcopal) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds in addition to his 8 points on the night.
Despite having the rebounding edge, 41-34, the Bulldogs committed 21 turnovers leading to 18 points for the Yellow Jackets.
Friday's contest saw 9 lead changes throughout with the Bulldogs leading by as much as three points in the first half after a stretch of four straight points from Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas High). The Bulldogs trailed for the majority of the game with the Yellow Jackets gaining their largest lead, 17 points, with a minute remaining in the game.
