AUSTIN -- Fifth-ranked Texas Lutheran received three RBI, including a two-run home run, from
Tyler Cauley and handed No. 16 Concordia Texas a 6-2 loss at Tornado Field on Tuesday night.
TLU improved to 19-7 overall. Concordia fell to 19-8 overall.
Cauley (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) collected three hits and went 3-for-5. He hit a two-run homer in the first to give TLU a quick 2-0 lead. Cauley singled through the right side in the sixth to score
Blade Strzelczyk (San Antonio/East Central).
Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) singled in the eighth to drive in two runs, and
Cullen Motsinger (Houston/Cypress Ranch) gave TLU another insurance run in the ninth with an RBI single.
Freshman left-hander
Riley Backs (Cypress/Cypress Falls) registered his first collegiate win with two innings of no-hit relief. Backs was one of seven Bulldog pitchers that limited the Tornados to two runs and seven hits.
TLU gets back to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday night with the start of a three-game series with Southwestern University.
