SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran and Southwestern split a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Friday at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field with the Pirates taking the first game 6-3 and TLU grabbing the second game 9-2.

Nathan Malinovsky (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) struck out a career-high 13 in the second game.
Malinovsky (4-3) tossed a complete game as the Bulldogs improved to 20-8 overall and to 5-3 in the SCAC. He walked just one and allowed one earned run. He scattered nine hits in nine innings.
Malinovsky moved within a win of the TLU career wins mark. The victory Friday was the senior's 31st as a Bulldog. Former Bulldogs Brad Orosey and Ron Churchman share the current TLU wins record with 32 victories.
With the split, Southwestern stands at 16-10 overall and at 5-3 in the SCAC.
Tyler Cauley (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) and
Cole Irby (Buda/Hays) each drove in three in the late-game win. Cauley and Irby each had two hits.
Nick Gardoni (Salinas. Calif./Palma) went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Cameron Wilson (Katy/Morton Ranch) and
Joe Jimenez (San Antonio/Johnson) each had two hits and two runs scored.
In the early game, Southwestern right-hander Austin Smith tossed a complete-game five-hitter. He struck out 11 and walked two. Cole Kelly drove in a pair of runs for the Pirates.
The final game of the three-game conference series has been moved back one day, to Sunday, because of the weather forecast on Saturday. The game on Sunday will start at 4 p.m. at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field.
