Texas Lutheran pushes SCAC softball record to 17-1 with wins over Schreiner

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran pushed its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference record to 17-1 with a pair of wins Friday over Schreiner.

The Bulldogs, ranked 15th in the latest NFCA poll for NCAA Division III, won the first game 12-1 in five innings and took the second game 4-1.

TLU improved to 23-7 overall and to 17-1 in the SCAC. Schreiner dropped to 15-19 overall and to 11-7 in the SCAC.

In the early game, TLU scored six runs in the first inning and two runs each in the second, third and fourth.

Casey Martin (Pearland/Pearland) recorded three hits and drove in two runs.

Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham), Madisyn Cates (Baytown/Sterling), Chassety Raines (Spring/Klein Collins), and Cassie Roche (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) each added two RBI.

Cates and Skylar Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) each scored a pair of runs.

Kayla Oliveira (San Diego, Texas/San Diego) picked up her ninth pitching win of the season. Oliveira moved to 9-3 with three shutout innings of work. She struck out two and allowed just one hit.

In game two, Raines took to the pitching circle and tossed a four-hit complete game. Raines struck out three and did not walk a batter. She improved to 5-0.

Jurden and Kassie Maddox (Midland/Greenwood) each had two hits in the late game. Jurden, Cates, and DeAnna Hernandez (Sugar Land/Dulles) each drove in a run.

Jurden scored twice and had two stolen bases in the second game. She also had a steal in the early game. Jurden now is 37-for-39 in stolen base attempts this year.

The Bulldogs and Mountaineers are scheduled to play a noon doubleheader Saturday at TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium (Morck Softball Field).
