SEGUIN, Texas --
Nathan Malinovsky and
Zach Perry combined on a seven-hit shutout of Millikin (Ill.) in Texas Lutheran's 7-0 non-conference victory Friday night at Katt-Isbel Field.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-4 overall. Millikin dropped to 1-4.
Malinovsky (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) pitched six strong innings, striking out 10 and scattering six hits. He walked two. Malinovsky improved to 2-1.
Perry (Round Rock/Round Rock) tossed the final three innings for the save. He struck out three and allowed just two base-runners.
TLU jumped out to a 6-0 lead through two innings. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the second.
Nick Gardoni (Salinas, Calif./Palma),
Trey Albaugh (Tomball/Concordia Lutheran) and
Tyler Cauley (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) each drove in runs in the second.
Gardoni went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Austin Colon (La Grange/La Grange) had three hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
Dalton Kinder (Cedar Park/Vista Ridge) collected two hits and an RBI, and
Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
TLU and Millikin play the second game of a three-game series on Saturday. First pitch is set for a 1 p.m. start at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field.
