SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Nineteenth-ranked Texas Lutheran finished off a four-game conference series sweep of Trinity with 9-1 and 11-3 victories at Trinity Softball Field.
The Bulldogs improved to 17-5 overall and to 11-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Trinity dropped to 10-10 overall and to 4-4 in the SCAC.
Both victories by TLU came via the run-rule. TLU won the first game in five innings and the second game in six innings.
In the early game, TLU right-hander
Kayla Oliveira (San Diego, Texas/San Diego) improved to 6-2 overall with a five-inning performance that included just one earned run allowed.
Haley Padilla (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) walked three times, scored a run, and drove in a run.
Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Erica Garcia (Deer Park/Deer Park) hit a solo home run and scored a pair of runs.
Cassie Roche (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) had a hit and two runs driven in.
In game two,
Rebecca Snow (Tomball/Klein Oak) followed up Friday night's six-RBI game with another three runs driven in against the Tigers. Snow went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Madisyn Cates (Baytown/Sterling) also had three hits in the second game. She scored a run and drove in a run.
Jurden was 2-for-4, and
DeAnna Hernandez (Sugar Land/Dulles) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Kassie Maddox (Midland/Greenwood) pitched the final four innings of the six-inning game and improved to 2-0. Maddox allowed just one hit.
TLU continues SCAC play next weekend with a four-game road series at Austin College. The Friday doubleheader in Sherman, Texas is set for a 6 p.m. start.
