SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran posted a pair of run-rule home victories Friday afternoon against No. 24 Transylvania (Ky.).
At TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium (Morck Softball Field), the Bulldogs won 11-3 in six innings and 9-1 in five innings.
The Bulldogs improved to 12-4 overall with the non-conference wins. The Pioneers fell to 6-6.
In the opener, TLU rallied from a 3-0 deficit after the first half-inning. The Bulldogs rallied with four runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, and five in the sixth to end the game via the eight-run rule.
Casey Martin (Pearland/Pearland) and
Kassie Maddox (Midland/Greenwood) each had three hits and three RBI.
DeAnna Hernandez (Sugar Land/Dulles) scored three times, and
Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) produced two hits and two runs scored.
Bethany Nevlud (Shiner/Shiner) and
Cassie Roche (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) each had two hits. Nevlud drove in a pair, and Roche scored twice.
Maddox went six complete innings in the circle. She scattered five hits and allowed just one earned run.
In game two, TLU first baseman
Erica Garcia (Deer Park/Deer Park) hit a three-run home run in the first as part of TLU's six-run first inning.
Garcia went 2-for-3 with a run scored and four RBI.
Sarah Metzer (Sugar Land/Dulles) collected three hits in three at-bats and drove in a run, and Martin added three more hits and two more runs scored. Martin went 6-for-7 in the doubleheader.
Kayla Oliveira (San Diego, Texas/San Diego) tossed five innings and improved to 4-2 overall. She struck out two and walked one. Oliveira allowed just three hits.
TLU hosts sixth-ranked East Texas Baptist (19-0) at noon Saturday for a doubleheader at Ed Kruse Stadium.
