THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- California Lutheran's Nick Pico hit a three-run double in the sixth inning as part of a four-run, sixth-inning rally that propelled the Kingsmen to a 4-2 win Friday afternoon over No. 5 Texas Lutheran.
TLU led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The Bulldogs dropped to 7-4 overall. CLU improved to to 7-2.
Senior left-hander Justin Fong (2-0) tossed seven innings and struck out nine to pick up the win for CLU.
Dylan Murrell (Tomball/Memorial) had five scoreless innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Murrell (1-1) struck out five and walked two.
Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) and
Cullen Motsinger (Houston/Cypress Ranch) had RBI for the Bulldogs. Both runs came in the TLU third inning.
Varner singled to score
Collin Docker (Lago Vista/Lago Vista), and Motsinger singled to score
Austin Colon (La Grange/La Grange).
The Bulldogs will attempt to play a third game on their California trip, but the weather on Saturday in Orange, Calif. does not look promising.
TLU is scheduled to play Chapman (Calif.) at 1 p.m. pacific (3 p.m. central) on Saturday at Hart Park in Orange. Chapman defeated TLU 8-5 on Thursday at Hart Park.
