No. 16 Chapman gets big 7th inning, clips No. 5 Texas Lutheran 8-5

ORANGE, Calif. -- Sixteenth-ranked Chapman (Calif.) turned a 4-1 deficit into an 8-4 lead with a seven-run seventh inning in the Panthers' 8-5 win Thursday night over No. 5 Texas Lutheran.

Sophomore left fielder Henry Zeisler belted a three-run home run in the seventh to tie the game, and the Panthers added four more runs - one on a TLU error, one more on a single from Jarod Penniman, and two more on a single from Joe Jimenez - after the Zeisler blast.

TLU dropped to 7-3 with the non-conference loss. Chapman improved to 9-3. Both TLU and Chapman played in last season's NCAA Division III Spokane, Wash. Regional. TLU won the regional and finished as the national runner-up.

TLU's Tyler Cauley (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with a two-run home run. Cauley went 3-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI, and an intentional walk.

Chad Curtis (Wolfforth/Frenship) added a solo home run in the sixth to give TLU a 3-1 lead. Trey Albaugh (Tomball/Concordia Lutheran) gave TLU the 4-1 lead with a single to center field in the top of the seventh.

TLU senior right-hander Nathan Malinovsky (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) started the game and went six strong innings. He allowed just one earned run and struck out eight. He did not figure into the decision.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday with a 2:30 p.m. pacific / 4:30 p.m. central matchup in Thousand Oaks, Calif. against California Lutheran.
