SEGUIN, Texas -- Austin College out-scored Texas Lutheran 10-3 in the overtime period and registered a 59-52 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Bulldogs on Friday evening.
In TLU's Memorial Gymnasium, the Kangaroos (20-4, 13-2 SCAC) survived a last-second shot attempt in regulation from the Bulldogs (15-9, 11-4 SCAC). With two seconds on the clock, TLU thew an in-bound pass from near mid-court and had a contested jumper from the baseline that did not drop.
Austin College remained in contention for an SCAC regular-season championship and the top seed in the upcoming SCAC Tournament, which TLU will host Feb. 22-24.
The best TLU can do in the conference tournament seeding is third.
Austin College post and pre-season All-American Bryce Frank scored 19 and added 13 rebounds for the Kangaroos. Frank also had two steals and a block.
Addison Walling contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The 'Roos shot 41.2 percent from the field for the game and held TLU to 34.5 percent.
Austin College also out-rebounded TLU 44-30. The Kangaroos had 16 offensive rebounds.
Tara Molina (San Antonio/Johnson) led TLU with 16 points. No other Bulldog scored in double figures.
Jordan Estrada (Marion/Marion) scored nine off the TLU bench. She hit three three-pointers.
Morgan Rodriguez (New Braunfels/Canyon) scored six and had a team-best five rebounds.
Jenesis Navarro (San Antonio/Lee) and
Bryanna Delgado (Port Lavaca/Calhoun) each had four assists.
TLU finishes up the regular season at noon Sunday in Seguin when it faces Centenary College (La.).
