SEGUIN, Texas --  The Texas Lutheran volleyball team secured a three-set win over Howard Payne University Tuesday evening in TLU's Tostengard Activity Center.
At Susan Duke Court, the Bulldogs earned 38 kills to HPU's 24. Led by
Cailey Young, TLUÂ bullied their way to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-21 win over their former American Southwest Conference rivals.

With the win, TLU improved to 2-1 on th year. HPU dropped to 0-1.Â

Young (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), smashed home 10 kills on .364 hitting. She ended up as the only player on either team to reach double-digit kills.
Bryten Mitchan (San Antonio/Highlands) followed closely with nine kills of her own.
Freshmen outside
Savhannah Kitchens (Inez/Industrial) recorded six kills for the Bulldogs, while freshmen middle blocker
Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) added five kills and eight digs. Â
As a team, Texas Lutheran shot .266 while holding the Yellow Jackets to just .064 hitting.Â

One of the keys to the match was the Bulldogs' advantage in digs after recording 47 compared to just 38 for Howard Payne. TLU libero
Jaci Chambers (Baytown/Goose Creek Memorial)Â led the way in that category finishing with 18 digs.
The Bulldogs posted six total aces, holding the Yellow Jackets to only two. Â
Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) led with three aces. Young, Chambers, and freshmen
Megan Wilke (Seguin/Seguin) each recorded aces for TLU.
Sophomore setter
Remy Corbin (Austin/Westwood) dished out 12 assists and picked up seven digs for the Bulldogs.Â
TLU heads to San Antonio, Texas for their next matches. The Bulldogs take on University of Texas at Tyler at 12:45 p.m. and University of Texas at Dallas at 5 p.m. on Friday in day one of the Trinity Invitational.Â
