BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Texas Lutheran dropped a pair of non-conference matches Friday at the Holiday Inn Express Classic II, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.Â
TLU fell in three to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.), 27-25, 25-21, 25-14 and took a second three-set loss to No. 19 University of Chicago, 25-21, 25-18, 25-14.Â
Against RHIT,
Cailey Young (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) posted 11 kills, and
Bryten Mitchan (San Anotion/Highlands) and
Trisha Pittman (Corpus Christi/Tuloso-Midway) recorded eight and seven kills, respectively.
Jaci Chambers (Baytown/Goose Creek Memorial) covered the back court, picking up 20 digs.Â
Young, Mitchan and
Kelsi Menn (San Antonio/Roosevelt) each put up solo blocks in the match.
Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) recorded 20 assists, 10 digs and a service ace for the Bulldogs.Â
Against Chicago, Mitchan and
Kelsey Hamrick (Liberty Hill/Liberty Hill) each tallied nine kills. Mitchan hit an impressive .320 with nine kills and just one hitting error. Pittman added eight kills, hitting a .261 against the Maroons.Â
Chambers led the squad with 28 digs, and added six assists. Jurden delivered 12 assists, while
Kacie Hall (Buda/ Hays) recorded 11 assists to go along with eight digs and a kill.Â
TLU's overall record is now 4-10.Â
The Bulldogs continue tournament play tomorrow with back-to-back matches against Illinois Wesleyan University and Millikin University (Ill.). TLU will face the IWU Titans at 10:30 a.m. and the Millikin Big Blue at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for both contests at tlubulldogs.com
