Volleyball gets Saturday split to wrap up weekend in Kerrville



KERRVILLE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldog volleyball team won one out of four matches over the weekend after falling to Centenary College and defeating Schreiner University on Saturday.

The split moved TLU's record to 4-8 on the year and 1-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The first match of the day, the Bulldogs fell in four 22-25, 25-19, 25-17, 27-25 to Centenary (6-7, 2-1 SCAC).

TLU hit a .069 in that one, while the Ladies hit .169. Individually, Cailey Young led the squad in kills with 11, hitting a .294.  

Jaci Chambers covered the back court, recording 27 digs and a serving aces for the Bulldogs. Jennifer Rodriguez served up four aces in the match. 

Remy Corbin delivered 22 assists, and Kelly Jurden dished out 17 to along with 12 digs. 

The weekend was concluded with a three-set 25-25-12, 25-15, 25-18 victory over Schreiner University (1-10, 0-3 SCAC).

TLU came out strong in the first frame, hitting a .217 to the Mountaineers -.106 and maintaining the lead throughout the set.

Texas Lutheran was led in that match by Young and Bryten Mitchan tallying 10 kills, respectively. Mitchan also registered two block assists. Trisha Pittman contributed six kills. 

Jurden claimed another double-double, racking up 16 assists and 11 digs. Chambers led, once again, in digs with 23.

The Bulldogs head to the non-conference Holiday Inn Express Classic this weekend in Bloomington, Ill. to face the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, University of Chicago, Illinois Wesleyan University, and Millikin University.
