RICHARDSON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball opened its 2018 season with a twin-bill split, making a come back win in five sets against University of Wisconsin-Superior and losing in three sets to Heidelberg University.

TLU defeated Wisconsin-Superior 20-25, 20-25, 30-28, 25-23, 15-11 and fell to Heidelberg University 26-24, 25-17, 25-19.

Against the Yellowjackets, the Bulldogs battled back from a 2-0 deficit with point-for-point third and fourth sets. 

Savhannah Kitchens paced TLU with 17 kills and one solo block in the opener. The freshmen outside hitter hit .394 with the 17 kills on 33 attempts. Bryten Mitchan followed with 13 kills for the Bulldogs.

Jaci Chambers picked up 35 digs, and Peyton Sulak added a solo block. Remy Corbin dished out 24 assists.

Kelly Jurden, Cailey Young and Kacie Hall each produced two serving aces in the match. Hall added an impressive four block assists.

In the loss to Heidelberg, TLU hit .086 and had 28 hitting errors. The Student Princes also recorded eight total blocks.

Morgan Strenk registered 13 kills and one block assist for Heidelberg.

TLU received nine kills, nine digs and a block assist from Hall. Young led the squad in kills, putting down 10. Young hit .625 with the 10 kills on 16 attempts with no errors. She added one solo block and one block assist.

The Bulldogs head home for their next contest. TLU will host Howard Payne University Tuesday evening at 6 p.m on Susan Duke Court. Live stats and video will be available at tlubulldogs.com
