BELTON, Texas --Â Texas Lutheran Women's Soccer posted the first official victory of the 2018-19 TLU Athletics year with a 2-1 non-conference neutral-site win Friday evening over Concordia Texas.
TLU (1-0) took an early 1-0 lead afterÂ
Monique Sierra (San Antonio/Taft) scored a header from a deflection in the 12th minute.
The Bulldogs took the match to 2-0 going into the half after a goal from freshmen forward
Ashley Martinez Rodriguez (San Marcos/San Marcos). The goal was unassisted.
The Tornados came out strong in the second half, holding TLU to just four shots. CTX out-shot TLU 14-9 and had a 7-4 advantage in total shots on goal.Â
CTX scored their lone goal in the 56th minute of play. Cayla Gonzalez scored a header off a corner kick from Emily Newton.

Stephanie Barrientos (Mission/Sharyland Pioneer) made six saves for the Bulldogs.
TLU plays its next match Saturday evening. The Bulldogs are set to play a non-conference road match versus University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. That match is set for a 5 p.m. start.
