SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball secured a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series sweep over University of Dallas, taking the final game 6-2 Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs won games one and two in doubleheader action on Saturday, winning 8-1 and 7-3 over the Crusaders.
TLU outscored UD 21-6 in the three-game series and improved to 6-3 in the SCAC with Sunday's win. They now sit at 24-7 overall.
Dallas dropped to 9-20 overall and 2-10 in conference.
At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, Dallas took an early 2-0 lead with an unearned run in the first and an earned run in the second.
In his fifth game start,
Clint Johns (Orland, Calif./Shasta JC) tossed 7-2/3 innings, allowing the two Crusaders' runs on six hits. Johns notched three strike outs.
Freshmen
Zach Perry (Round Rock/Round Rock) earned his second save on the year with 1-1/3 innings of work. Perry struck out one.
On offense the Bulldogs rolled to six runs on 13 hits. TLU kicked off the fourth inning with a stand up triple from
Matthew Lemon (Caldwell/Caldwell).
Chad Curtis (Wolfforth/Midland JC) brought in Lemon with a single to right field.
Senior
Riley Schaefer (Thorndale/Thorndale) produced a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in the tying run for the Bulldogs.
TLU plated three more runs in the seventh starting with
Tyler Cauley (Baytown/Barbers Hill) scoring on a RBI triple from Lemon.
Eric Rabinowitz (Schertz/Clemens) followed with a double down the left field line to bring in Lemon.
Cameron Wilson (Katy/Morton Ranch) kept the hitting cycle going with a single to right field to drive in Rabinowitz.
Cauley drove in the final run for the Bulldogs with a single shot to right field. Cauley went 4-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI.
Lemon went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, one RBI, and two triples. Schaefer added two hits and scored one for the Bulldogs.
TLU continues conference play as they host Centenary College for a three-game series. Game one of the series is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. All three games will be played at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field.
