SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball handed Centenary College (La.) its first losses of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action this season with 11-5 and 11-4 home wins Saturday at Katt-Isbel Field.
TLU, ranked 11th and 13th in the two major NCAA DIII baseball polls, moved its overall record to 26-7 and its conference mark to 8-3.
Centenary dropped to 18-12 overall and to 9-2 in the SCAC.
Bulldog catcher
Spencer Brandt (Yoakum/Yoakum) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in the early contest and had a 3-for-5 showing with four RBI in the late game.
Keaton Boysen (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) hit a three-run home run and had three hits and two runs scored in the opener. He added three more hits, a run scored and an RBI in the second contest.
In the opener,
Dylan Drgac (Caldwell/Caldwell) went 7-2/3 innings to get his eighth win of the year. Drgac (8-1) struck out seven and walked three.
Nathan Malinovsky tossed seven innings in the second game and also moved to 8-1. Malinovsky worked out six walks. He struck out six.
Riley Schaefer collected five hits and four runs scored in the doubleheader. He drove in a run in each game. Schaefer hit his sixth home run of the season in the second contest.
With fielding conditions made difficult due to wind gusts up to 30 mph, TLU played error-free baseball in both contests. Centenary made a total of eight errors - four in each game. Those eight errors led to 11 unearned runs Saturday.
TLU and Centenary play the final game of the series on Sunday. First pitch at Katt-Isbel Field is set for 1 p.m.
