Raycroft hurls 12th career no-no as Bulldogs open SCAC tourney with 8-0 win

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior right-hander Maitlin Raycroft (Spring/Klein) hurled her 12th no-hitter as a Bulldog to lead the No. 2-ranked squad to an 8-0 win over Centenary at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Championship.

Friday at Southwestern University's Taylor-Sanders Field, Raycroft struck out 11 in the five-inning game, which ended via the eight-run rule after Skylar Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) doubled to right field to score Cassie Roche (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland).

TLU won its 28th straight game and improved to 35-1 overall. The Bulldogs advance to Saturday's SCAC tournament semifinal game, set for a 3 p.m. start against either No. 2 seed Schreiner or No. 3 seed Southwestern. The Mountaineers and Pirates play Friday evening to determine TLU's semifinal opponent.

Centenary fell to 18-21 overall and lost for the fourth time this season to TLU. The Ladies play the University of Dallas in an elimination game, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.

Raycroft has tossed four no-hitters in 2018 to go along with her NCAA DIII single-season record eight that she tossed a season ago. Raycroft improved to 17-0 in 2018 and lowered her ERA to 0.98.

The Bulldogs broke open a scoreless game in the third with four runs. Kelsie McEachern (Atascocita/Huffman) doubled down the left field line to get the scoring started. Roche, the SCAC Player of the Year, singled through left side to drive in the second run.

Ouellette knocked home the third run with a sacrifice fly, and Roche crossed home plate with the fourth run after she stole third and came home on an error.

In the fourth, McEachern singled to bring home McKay Bloxham (Katy/Katy), and Haley Padilla (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) belted a two-run home run.

Ouellette and McEachern each finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI. Roche was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. McEachern also scored a pair of runs.
