GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Softball roared to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship round for a fifth consecutive year after senior
Kyla Lockley belted a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, and senior pitcher
Maitlin Raycroft tossed her second no-hitter in as many days in a 9-0 defeat of Southwestern.
At Southwestern's Taylor-Sanders Field, Lockley (Wharton/Boling) led off the Bulldogs' bottom of the first with a blast over the left-field fence.
After
Madisyn Cates (Baytown/Sterling) hit a solo shot to make it 2-0 in the fourth, TLU loaded the bases for Lockley, who deposited a pitch over the left-field fence.
TLU continued to score in the fourth - adding runs on a Cates single with a fielding error and a
Cassie Roche (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) single. TLU scored eight times in the fourth.
Lockley went 2-for-2 with five RBI, and Cates put together a 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored and an RBI.
Raycroft (Spring/Klein) hurled her 13th career no-hitter and her fifth no-hitter of the season. She pitched a no-hitter on back-to-back days for the second time this season. Raycroft set the NCAA DIII record for single-season no-hitters with eight last year.
Raycroft, the two-time SCAC Pitcher of the Year and a 2017 All-American, became the first SCAC pitcher to toss multiple no-hitters in a single conference tournament. She added to her numerous Bulldog records by becoming the first play to toss two no-hitters in a post-season.
Against Southwestern, Raycroft struck out seven and walked just one in five innings. Raycroft no-hit Centenary in five innings on Friday.
TLU advances to the SCAC Championship round to face the winner of the Southwestern v. Centenary/Schreiner winner. The TLU opponent will be decided later Friday night.
The first championship game Sunday is set for a 1 p.m. start at Taylor-Sanders Field. If necessary, a second championship game would take place 30 minutes after the first.
TLU has won four straight SCAC tournament titles. The Bulldogs have never lost a championship round game in the SCAC tournament. TLU is 15-1 all-time in the SCAC tournament.
The Bulldogs are ranked second in the NFCA DIII national poll. The Bulldogs have been No. 2 for eight consecutive weeks. TLU has won 29 consecutive games entering Sunday's championship round.
