SEGUIN, Texas -- After taking two games off Centenary (La.) on Saturday, 11th-ranked Texas Lutheran dropped the conference series finale against the Gents with a 7-3 loss Sunday at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field.
The Bulldogs fell to 26-8 overall and to 8-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Centenary moved to 19-12 overall and to 10-2 in the SCAC.
The Gents clinched a spot in the upcoming SCAC Baseball Championship. The top four teams in the SCAC advance to the conference tournament.
TLU held a 3-2 lead into the top of the seventh. Centenary scored five times in the seventh. The Gents were aided in their comeback by three Bulldog errors in the seventh.
The first six hitters in the Gents' lineup - Peyton Cormane, Cody Crowder, Chris Zapata, Ian Graham, Cameron Guin and Preston Ludwick - each drove in a run during the contest.
Centenary senior right-hander Cole Lavergne tossed a complete game. Lavergne scattered 11 hits and stranded seven Bulldogs on base. He stuck out four and did not walk a batter.
Riley Schaefer (Thorndale/Thorndale),
Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) and
Tyler Cauley (Baytown/Barbers Hill) each drove in a run for TLU. All three players had two hits.
Clint Johns (Orland, Calif./Orland) pitched six innings for TLU and took the loss. Johns dropped to 4-1. He allowed four runs (only two earned), and he registered three strikeouts and a walk.
TLU heads to Georgetown, Texas this Friday to start a three-game SCAC series with the Southwestern Pirates.
