KERRVILLE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Softball, ranked second in the latest NFCA poll for NCAA Division III softball, moved its win streak to 18 games and its overall and conference marks to 25-1 and 10-0, respectively, with a pair of wins Thursday against Schreiner University.
TLU took the first game 2-1 as
Maitlin Raycroft (Spring/Klein) went the distance and improved to 13-0.
The Bulldogs rolled to a 13-1 win in the second game as three different players -
Kelsie McEachern (Atascocita/Huffman),
Kassie Maddox (Midland/Greenwood) and
Cassie Roche (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) - each drove in three runs.
Maddox hit a three-run home run, her fifth of the season, and Roche had a two-run shot, her second of the year.
In the early game,
Haley Padilla (Smithson Valley/Spring Branch) blasted her fifth home run of the year to give TLU a 1-0 lead. After Padilla's homer,
Skylar Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) and Roche each doubled. Roche's extra-base hit brought home Ouellette.
The two runs would be all that Raycroft would need. The senior right-hander notched her eighth complete-game of the year. Raycroft finished with a five-hitter.
Jordaine Bishop (Leander/Rouse) picked up the win in game two. Bishop (7-0) went five innings and allowed one earned run. She struck out three.
TLU and Schreiner play a second SCAC doubleheader Friday in Kerrville. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is set for noon at the Schreiner Softball Field.
