SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran bounced back from a conference-opening home loss Friday night against Schreiner University by posting 8-0 and 6-1 wins over the Mountaineers Saturday afternoon.ÂÂ
Ranked 17th in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association poll, TLU improved to 17-4 overall and 2-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.ÂÂ
SU dropped to 10-13 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
TLU started the day with a four-hit complete-game shutout from redshirt junior
Nathan Malinovsky (New Braunfels/New Braunfels). In the nine-inning contest, Malinovsky struck out seven and walked one. He improved to 4-1 with the win.ÂÂ

Five different Bulldogs drove in runs in the early game.
Riley Schaefer (Thorndale/Thorndale) went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, and
Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) drove in three.ÂÂ
Right fielder
Andrew Whitten (Houston/Spring Woods) went 2-for-3 and plated a run for the Bulldogs.ÂÂ
In the second contest, TLU led 3-1 entering the fifth inning before erupting for three in the sixth. The Bulldogs produced 12 total hits in the 6-1 victory.
Matthew Lemon (Caldwell/Caldwell) drove in two and went 3-for-4. He also had a double.
Ben Marvin (Kingwood/Kingwood), Schaefer and Varner each drove in runs for TLU.ÂÂ
Eric Rabinowitz (Schertz/Clemens) scored two times and collected two hits. Schaefer produced two more runs and three more hits. ÂÂ
Freshmen right-hander
Zach Perry grabbed his first save after three innings of relief. Perry struck out three.ÂÂ
Jacob Wieder (Houston/Klein Collins) saw his first pitching win of the season, striking out one and scattering four hits.ÂÂ
