SEGUIN, Texas -- Second-ranked Texas Lutheran completed a 6-0 run through its Bulldog Classic with 9-1 and 8-2 victories Saturday over the University of La Verne (Calif.).
At TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium - Morck Softball Field, the Bulldogs run-ruled La Verne in six innings in the first game and jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second.
The Bulldogs won their 11th and 12th consecutive games and improved to 19-1 overall.
In addition to the six Bulldog Classic games that TLU won, the Bulldogs also had a doubleheader sweep earlier in the week against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
TLU posted run-rule wins in four of the eight total victories.
La Verne, a Tyler Regional participant a year ago, dropped to 12-8 overall. TLU defeated La Verne 7-3 at the 2017 NCAA Division III Softball Tyler Regional.
In the early game, Bulldog third baseman
Kassie Maddox delivered three hits (including a double), drove in three and scored twice.
Madisyn Cates tallied a pair of hits, and
Kyla Lockley stole four bases and scored three times.
In the pitching circle, sophomore
Jordaine Bishop tossed 4-1/3 innings to improve to 5-0 overall. She allowed just two hits and struck out two in a relief appearance.
In game two, right-hander
Maitlin Raycroft pitched the final four innings to pick up her 10th win of the year. Raycroft (10-0) went four innings and allowed just two hits.
At the plate in the second game,
Cassie Roche homered, and Maddox and
Haley Padilla each drove in a pair of runs. Cates scored twice and had two hits. Lockley recorded a pair of hits, drove in a run and scored a run.
TLU does not play again until next Friday when it hosts Trinity University for a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series. The Friday doubleheader at Ed Kruse Stadium starts at 5 p.m. The Saturday doubleheader begins at noon.
