SEGUIN, Texas -- Second-ranked Texas Lutheran posted 9-1 and 5-4 victories Monday afternoon against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Bulldogs moved to 13-1 overall and pushed their win streak to six games. UMHB fell to 11-6 with the two non-conference losses.
At TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium (Morck Softball Field), the Bulldogs needed six innings in the first game thanks to the eight-run rule.
Kassie Maddox (Midland/Greenwood) produced a walk-off, bases-loaded double in the sixth to end the ball game.
In the late game, Maddox again was part of a walk-off. She narrowly beat out an infield single to score
Kyla Lockley (Wharton/Boling) from third in the bottom of the ninth.
Maddox went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in the late game. In the first-game win, she was 1-for-4 with four RBI.
Sophomore right-hander
Jordaine Bishop (Leander/Rouse) tossed nine innings and allowed just two earned runs to improve to 3-0. Bishop struck out five and worked around three walks and six hits.
Bishop was perfect through three innings and took a no-hitter into the fifth.
In the first contest,
Maitlin Raycroft pushed her pitching record to 7-0 with a complete-game win. She struck out four, walked three and finished with a four-hitter.
McKay Bloxham (Katy/Katy),
Haley Padilla (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley),
Kelsie McEachern (Atascocita/Huffman) and
Skylar Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) each drove in a run.
Lockley scored three times, and Bloxham crossed home plate twice.
TLU starts play Tuesday in its own Bulldog Classic. The Bulldogs face Messiah (Pa.) in a noon doubleheader.
The Tuesday doubleheader is the first part of 12 games (six doubleheaders) over five days (Tuesday through Saturday) at Ed Kruse Stadium. The Bulldog Classic features TLU, Messiah, La Verne (Calif.), and University of Texas at Dallas.
