RICHARDSON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior outfielder
Riley Schaefer (Thorndale/Thorndale) homered three times, tying TLU and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference single-game records, as the Bulldogs completed a three-game sweep of the University of Texas at Dallas with a 15-5 win late Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs took the early game of the day 5-0 and won on Friday night 8-1.
TLU moved to 15-3 overall with the non-conference sweep. Texas Dallas, out of the American Southwest Conference, fell to 9-8 overall.
Schaefer hit a three-run home run in the second and belted solo shots in the third and sixth. He also had a double and finished one total base shy of Drew Farr's school-record for total bases in a game. Farr had 15 in 2008 against Schreiner. Schaefer finished with 14 against the Comets.ÂÂ
Schaefer's home run in the sixth was part of three-homer binge for the Bulldogs in the frame.
Eric Rabinowitz (Schertz/Clemens) and
Cameron Wilson (Katy/Morton Ranch) went back-to-back earlier in the inning.
Wilson homered in the fourth and in the sixth and finished the finale 3-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBI.
TLU had six home runs and 19 hits in the game-three victory. The six home runs for a single game are one off the school record of seven (a feat accomplished four previous times).
The Bulldogs came back from a 3-1 deficit after the first inning with a six-run second and a four-run third.
The late game, originally scheduled for nine innings, was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
In the seven-inning early game, right-hander
Nathan Malinovsky (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) tossed a four-hit shutout for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs broke open a scoreless contest after five innings with a two-RBI single from sophomore right fielder
Tyler Cauley (Baytown/Barbers Hill).
Ben Marvin (Kingwood/Kingwood) crossed home plate on an bases-loaded walk by
Matthew Lemon (Caldwell/Caldwell). Cauley collect a second two-RBI single to drive in the final runs.
Malinovsky (3-1) did not allow a runner past second. The redshirt junior struck out five and walked two
In the late game,
Drew Waller (Bellville/Bellville) pitched five innings and allowed four runs (three earned). Waller improved to 3-0. The junior right-hander struck out three and walked one.
