IRVING, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Softball collected 8-0 and 12-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victories Saturday afternoon over the University of Dallas.
Both games ended after five innings due to the eight-run rule.
At Crusader Field, the Bulldogs completed the four-game series sweep of Dallas and improved to 11-1 overall and to 4-0 in the SCAC.
Dallas dropped to 1-11 overall and to 0-4 in the SCAC.
TLU, ranked second in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll for NCAA Division III, moved its all-time conference record in the SCAC to 93-2. The Bulldogs, four-time defending champions of the SCAC, are in their fifth season in the league.
In the opener Saturday, sophomore right-hander
Kelsie Stone (San Antonio/O'Connor) spun a complete-game, two-hit shutout. Stone (1-0) struck out two and walked two.
Less than 24 hours removed from earning her first career save, Stone notched her first career win.
Kassie Maddox (Midland/Greenwood) drove in two, and
Cassie Roche (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) registered three hits and two runs scored.
In game two,
Maitlin Raycroft (Spring/Klein) picked up her sixth win of the year. Raycroft (6-0) allowed four hits and one earned run in the start. She struck out six.
In the late game,
Kelsie McEachern (Atascocita/Huffman) drove in three and had two hits, including a double.
Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Kyla Lockley (Wharton/Boling) went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, and
Haley Padilla (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) knocked in a pair of runs.
On Monday, TLU starts a busy Spring Break of home softball action with a doubleheader against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. First pitch in game one of the twin bill is set for 3 p.m.
