GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball rallied to erase a 3-2 deficit and scored two runs in the seventh inning to collect a 4-3 win Friday over Willamette University during day one of the Rusty Greer/Jackie Moore Classic.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 with the non-conference victory. The Bearcats dropped to 2-3 overall.
At AirHogs Stadium, the Bulldogs scored off a throwing error at third base to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. TLU's winning run came off a single through the right side from
Matthew Lemon (Caldwell/Caldwell). Junior third baseman
Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) scored the winning run.
Tyler Cauley (Baytown/Barber Hill) kicked off scoring in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field.
Chad Curtis (Wolfforth/Midland JC) and Lemon each registered RBI singles.
Senior
Dylan Drgac (Caldwell/Caldwell) picked up the win with seven innings of work. He struck out five and walked one. Drgac improved to 2-0.
Redshirt junior
Nathan Malinovsky (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) earned his second save on the season with two innings of pitching relief. Malinovsky struck out one.
Varner had three hits and scored a run, and Cauley also collected two hits and scored a run. Lemon and Curtis both went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
The Bulldogs play again in the Rusty Greer/Jackie Moore Classic on Saturday at AirHogs Stadium. TLU faces Hendrix College (Ark.) at 11 a.m. and LeTourneau University at 2:30 p.m.
