GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas-- Texas Lutheran Baseball heads home with a 3-0 sweep at the Rusty Greer/Jackie Moore Classic after scoring wins over Hendrix College and LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs defeated Hendrix 9-3 and LETU 14-5. TLU opened the classic with a 4-3 victory over Willamette University Friday.
TLU improved to 5-0 overall.
In the early game on Saturday,
Drew Waller (Bellville/Bellville) secured the pitching win with seven innings of action. Waller allowed just five hits and two unearned runs. He struck out four.
Riley Schaefer (Thorndale/Thorndale),
Chad Curtis (Wolfforth/Frenship) and
Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) each had two hits, and
Tyler Cauley (Baytown/Barbers Hill) drove in two with sacrifice flies in the fifth and seventh innings.
Spencer Brandt (Yoakum/Yoakum) and
Andrew Whitten (Houston/Spring Woods) also collected RBI in the 9-3 victory.

In the 14-5 win,
Clint Johns (Orland, Calif./Orland) earned his first pitching win of the season with five innings of work. He finished with five hits and three runs allowed. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Landon Weatherly (Granbury/Granbury) posted two innings of relief, allowing two hits and a run. Weatherly struck out two.
Ethan Mueller (Converse/Judson) tossed the final inning and struck out two.
The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the fourth, sending 11 batters to the plate in the inning. With the bases loaded, TLU scored off three walks and two singles.
Matthew Lemon (Caldwell/Caldwell) singled to right field and drove in two.
TLU returns to action Tuesday with a non-conference game against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. TLU will have live video and stats on tlubulldogs.com for the single, nine-inning game.
