SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball is off to a 6-0 start for the first time since 2013 after rolling to a 16-4 win Tuesday night against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, the Bulldogs scored in every inning but the fifth and the seventh and collected 15 hits.
UMHB dropped to 0-1 with the non-conference loss.
Riley Schaefer (Thorndale/Thorndale) and
Matthew Lemon (Caldwell/Caldwell) each had three hits. Lemon scored four runs and drove in three, and Schaefer scored three runs and drove in two. Schaefer had a double and a triple. Lemon also tripled.
Ben Marvin (Kingwood/Kingwood) had a pair of hits and scored three times.
Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) scored three runs and drove in two.
Five different Bulldogs had multi-hit games.
TLU pitching struck out 14 Crusader batters.
Jacob Terpstra (Allen/Allen) picked up the win in relief. He is 1-0. Mason Schuh took the loss. He is 0-1.
The Bulldogs return to Katt-Isbel Field for a Thursday night 7 p.m. match-up with Hardin-Simmons. The TLU-HSU series has been moved up one day in an effort to avoid Saturday's inclement weather forecast. TLU and HSU will play a 1 p.m. Friday doubleheader, also at Katt-Isbel Field.
