SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Basketball kept its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament hopes alive with an 84-74 home win Saturday over Austin College.
With the win at TLU's Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court), TLU moved to 10-14 overall and to 6-7 in the SCAC. Austin dropped to 4-20 overall and to 2-11 in the SCAC.
The Bulldogs sit in a tie with Southwestern (10-14, 6-7) for the sixth and final spot for the SCAC tournament. The Bulldogs and Pirates close out the regular season against one another next Friday in Georgetown, Texas. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
TLU also is a half-game behind Colorado College (11-12, 6-6) and a game behind Centenary (13-10, 7-6).
In the win Saturday over Austin, five different TLU players hit double figures.
Sebastian Andrade followed up his 26-point performance on Friday with a 17-point, seven-rebound effort against Austin. Andrade hit five of his 10 shots, and he dished out three assists.
Matthew Gillette, the senior forward playing in his final home game, scored 13 and pulled down seven rebounds.
Jackson Willoughby and
Jacob Kouremetis each chipped in 12. Kouremetis hit four three-pointers.
Alex Cage came off the Bulldog bench to score 11 points and grab five rebounds.
TLU shot 47.5 percent from the field overall and 51.9 percent in the second half.
The Bulldogs led 38-36 at the half and out-scored the Kangaroos 46-38 in the final 20 minutes.
Kam Hogan led Austin with 22 points and seven rebounds.
