SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary College Gents opened up a 40-point lead by halftime and used the cushion to secure an 89-69 conference win over Texas Lutheran.
Sunday in Centenary's Gold Dome, the Gents shot 62.5 percent (20-for-32) overall and 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from the three-point line in the first half.
Centenary shot 58.7 percent from the field for the contest.
TLU rallied late behind a barrage of three-pointers. The Bulldogs got as close as 19 with 2:43 to play before closing within 20 (the final margin) on a
Andi Vrapcani (Kosovo/Irion County) three-pointer 22 seconds to play.
Centenary improved to 4-8 overall and to 2-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. TLU dropped to 7-6 overall and to 2-2 in the SCAC.
Centenary junior guard Cedric Harris paced his squad with 32 points on 13-of-16 shooting. He added seven rebounds and two assists.
Ty Price and Kaharri Carter added 18 and 12 points, respectively, for the Gents.
Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) led TLU with 20 points. He finished 8-for-10 from field and added a team-high eight rebounds.
Nathan Josephs (San Antonio/Texas State) contributed 15. Josephs scored 12 in the second half. He hit three second-half threes.
Caleb Lister (Baytown/Baytown Christian Academy) hit double figures in scoring. He put up 11 and pulled down four rebounds.
The Bulldogs head to Huntsville, Texas tomorrow for an exhibition contest versus Sam Houston State University. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
