SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran men's basketball team celebrated its fourth straight win as they edged the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys 75-74 in non-conference action on Friday evening at Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court).ÂÂ
The Bulldogs won the game with a free throw from senior Nathan Josephs (San Antonio/Texas State). Josephs split the free throws for the win after a foul was called with 0.7 seconds on the clock. HSU's Keenan Holdman tied things up just two seconds prior.ÂÂ
The Cowboys opened up the game with an 11-4 run but the Bulldogs responded with a 10-0 run to take a 14-11 lead at the 12:06 mark.ÂÂ
HSU regained the lead at 23-19 with 9:22 to play in the half. TLU rallied back with a 13-2 run to take a 32-24 lead. The Bulldogs led 39-29 at halftime.
TLU held a 49-38 lead with 16:08 to play when the Cowboys went on a run and cut the deficit to 51-47 with 11:28 to play.ÂÂ
The Cowboys' Chris Barrett gave HSU its first lead of the second half with two good free throws at the 6:42 mark. Steven Quinn hit a three-pointer for HSU with :45 to play to cut it to 73-72. Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas) split a pair of free throws to make it 74-72 with 34 seconds remaining.
With 16 seconds on the clock, the Cowboys snagged an offensive rebound to set up Holdman's game-tying driving lay-up.
Andrade scored a team-high 22 points and added four rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes of action. Senior Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) hit his first double-double of the season, chipping in 10 points and matching his career-high 15 rebounds (5 offensive, 10 defensive).
Jacob Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) scored 13 points and a steal for the Bulldogs. Senior Alex Cage (Austin/McNeil) came off the bench to add 12 points.
TLU improved to 7-5 overall and HSU fell to 6-5 overall. The Bulldogs return to conference action Dec. 30 in Shreveport, La. TLU will face Centenary College at 2 p.m. in the Gold Dome.ÂÂ
