SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Basketball grabbed a 72-59 non-conference victory Thursday evening over the McMurry University War Hawks.Â
In Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court), the War Hawks took a five point lead in the first two minutes of action. The Bulldogs tied things up 14-14 at the 13:20 mark and never looked back. McMurry held their final lead of the game 14-13 at the 14:07 mark.
Point guard
Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/ Americas) hit a three to boost the Bulldogs into the lead 17-14 with 12:44 remaining. Senior
Shawn Hamilton (San Antonio/McArthur) scored all of his 13 points in the first half to boost TLU to a 39-31 lead going into halftime.Â
The Bulldogs lead by as many as 18 in the second half and held the War Hawks to 32 percent shooting from the field.Â
Hamilton finished 4-for-9 from the field and shot 44 percent from the arc. Andrade paced the Bulldogs with 18 points. The sophomore hit two three-pointers to go along with four rebounds.Â
Senior
Alex Cage (Austin/McNeil) came off the bench to score 14 points. Cage connected on four of his nine shot attempts and hit all five of his free throws.
Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) chipped in 11 points, five assists and five rebounds.Â
Sophomore
Caleb Lister (Baytown/Baytown Christian) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, six off defensive glass.
Nathan Josephs (San Antonio/Texas State) snagged five rebounds and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line for the Bulldogs.Â
TLU used a 20-6 bench-scoring advantage and a 24-20 edge in points-in-the-paint to distance themselves from the War Hawks.
TLU improved to 6-5 overall with the win. McMurry dropped to 4-6 overall.
