Bulldogs romp to 68-45 home conference win over Schreiner


SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Basketball cruised to a 68-45 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win Tuesday night over the Schreiner University Mountaineers. 

In Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court), TLU moved to 5-5 overall and to 2-1 in the SCAC. Schreiner dropped to 2-6 overall and to 0-1 in the SCAC. 

Bulldog start guard Jacob Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) scored 11 points to pace the squad. Kouremetis added three assists to go along with his two steals for the night. 

TLU opened up a 22-5 lead after the first quarter and led 34-20 at the break. Schreiner shot just 36 percent (9-for-25) from the floor in the first half.

Jackson Willoughby chipped in nine points in 18 minutes of action before a dislocated shoulder took him out of the game. Starters Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock), Nathan Josephs (San Antonio/Texas State, and Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/El Paso) each chipped in eight points along with senior Alex Cage (Austin/McNeil) who came off the bench to score eight points of his own.

Andrade pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Cage added four rebounds and dished out six assists. 

TLU led by as many as 30 points in the second half, and held did not allow the Mountaineers within 21 points.  

Alex Dehoyos led Schreiner with 11 points. He added four rebounds. 

Schreiner out-rebounded TLU 40-34. The defensive rebounds were evenly matched at 24, but the Mountaineers held a 16-10 edge on the offensive side. 

TLU takes a break from SCAC play as they host McMurry Univesity for a non-conference game Thursday evening. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Doghouse.
