SEGUIN, Texas -- Johnson & Wales (Colo.) erupted for 57 second-half points and took an 89-81 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Friday night over Texas Lutheran.
In TLU's Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court), the Wildcats shot 57.6 percent (19-for-33) from the floor and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the three-point line in the second half.
Johnson & Wales, out of Denver and in its first year in the SCAC, improved to 9-2 overall and to 2-0 in the SCAC.
TLU fell to 3-5 overall and to 0-1 in the SCAC.
After shooting 44.8 percent in the first half and holding a 37-32 lead, TLU dropped to 36.4 percent from the floor and 22.2 percent from the three-point line in the second half.
The Bulldogs were 4-for-18 from the three-point line in the second half and 7-for-30 from the arc for the game.
Bailey Stephens led JWU with 25 points. He added five rebounds. Jontrell Herman collected 17 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Andrew Romero III chipped in 14 rebounds and seven points for the Wildcats.
JWU out-rebounded TLU 46-28. The Wildcats had 14 offensive rebounds.
Nathan Josephs (San Antonio/Clark) led TLU with 20 points and four assists.
Jacob Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) scored 17 and hit four three-pointers.
