Jaclyn Smolik knocked home the game-winner with four seconds on the clock to lift the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 2-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win Friday over Austin College.ÂÂ
Smolik, a junior from Katy, took a cross from
Alyssa Reimer (Schertz/Clemens), faked right and shot left just past the keeper from about ten yards.ÂÂ
The Kangaroos Maddie Weimer kicked off scoring in the first five minutes of the match. Weimer scored off a deflection, giving the 'Roos a 1-0 lead throughout the first half.ÂÂ
Senior
Aubrie Wells (Houston/Lutheran South Academy) tied match for TLU in the 70th minute. Wells scored off a shot to the top right corner, barely beating the keeper. The goal was assisted by
Calista Goode (San Antonion/East Central).ÂÂ
Junior keeper
Stephanie Barrientos (Mission/Sharyland Pioneer) withstood nine AC shots and five on goal. Barrientos made four saves for the Bulldogs.ÂÂ
TLU had 22 total shots and put nine on goal.ÂÂ
The Bulldogs improved to 7-5-3 overall and to 6-4-2 in the SCAC. AC fell to 0-12-1 overall and to 0-8-1 in conference.ÂÂ
The Bulldogs finish conference play on Sunday against University of Dallas. Match start is scheduled for 2 p.m.
