Bulldogs back in win column with 79-69 victory at Austin College


SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Basketball broke back into the win column with a 79-69 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win Sunday over Austin College.

At Austin College's Hughey Gymnasium, Bulldog junior guards Alex Cage and Nathan Josephs combined for 38 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals.

Cage tallied 20 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Josephs contributed 18 points, seven assists and two steals.

TLU snapped a four-game skid and improved to 5-8 overall and to 1-1 in the SCAC.

Austin College lost its ninth straight game. The Kangaroos dropped to 2-12 overall and to 0-3 in the SCAC.

Another TLU guard, Jacob Kouremetis, also hit double figures. The junior shooting guard hit four three-pointers and finished with 12 points. Kouremetis also dished out four assists.

Bulldog senior forward Matthew Gillette collected 11 rebounds and scored nine.

TLU shot 42.9 percent for the game and hit 17 of 23 free throws (73.9 percent).

The Kangaroos shot 41.7 percent from the field and just 4-for-22 from the three-point line. Austin College also struggled at the free throw line, making just five of 12 free throw attempts.

TLU continues SCAC play next weekend with home games against Trinity University (5:30 p.m. Friday) and Schreiner University (4 p.m. Saturday).
