Trinity collects conference road win at Texas Lutheran


SEGUIN, Texas -- Trinity University spoiled Texas Lutheran's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference home-opener by defeating the Bulldogs 83-67 Friday night in Memorial Gymnasium.

Trinity improved to 8-6 overall and to 2-1 in the SCAC.

TLU fell to 5-9 overall and to 1-2 in the SCAC.

The Tigers held TLU to 23.3 percent shooting in the first half and to 31.3 percent for the game. The Bulldogs were 20-for-64 from the field and 6-for-29 from the three-point line.

Trinity finished the game at 50 percent from the floor. Playing without leading scorer and rebounder Danny Rivara, the Tigers received a big night from Jayden Holden, who scored 21 and grabbed 14 rebounds. He also contributed three assists and two steals.

Holden was joined in double figures by Aaron Knopp, Isaiah Specks and Brooks Mays. Those three players each scored 10.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Nathan Josephs, who scored all 20 of his points in the second half. Josephs made three three-pointers and had a 7-for-7 showing at the free throw line in the second half.

Sebastian Andrade was the only other Bulldog in double figures. The freshman from El Paso chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds.

TLU must turn around and face Schreiner University at 4 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Gymnasium. TLU will have live video and live stats for the contest on tlubulldogs.com.
