IRVING, Texas -- Senior shooting guard
Matt Perry came off the bench to hit five three-pointers and score 15 to spark Texas Lutheran to a big 68-52 road win over the University of Dallas, Friday evening at UD's Maher Center.
For Perry, the road game at Dallas marked the second straight year in which he had propelled the Bulldogs to a key road victory. Last year, Perry made six three-pointers (on six attempts) to score 18 points in 16 minutes of action.
TLU, the three-time defending Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champion, had lost three of its first four conference games this year. The victory Friday moved TLU to 6-10 overall and to 2-3 in the SCAC.
Dallas dropped to 9-7 overall and to 3-3 in the SCAC.
Junior point guard
Nathan Josephs added 18 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Jackson Willoughby and
Alex Cage chipped in nine points and eight points, respectively. Cage pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, and Willoughby contributed six rebounds.
Josephs and Cage each had four assists. Cage also tallied three steals.
TLU led 27-26 at the break before out-scoring the Crusaders 41-26 in the second half.
TLU shot 52.4 percent from the field in the second half (47.7 percent for the game) and held Dallas to 39.6 percent for the game.
The Crusaders went 3-for-15 from the three-point line. TLU hit 11 of 22 three-point attempts and went 15-for-18 at the free throw line.
TLU continues its road trip with a Sunday match-up in Colorado Springs, Colo. against Colorado College. Game time is set for 11 a.m. MST.
