SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Soccer defeated Southwestern in a 2-0 shut out as they opened up SCAC play Friday night at Gustafson Field.
TLU improves to 1-2 overall mark with the win and 1-0 in conference play. Southwestern dropped to 0-3 with the loss and 0-1 in SCAC play.
Sara Gribbon nailed the first shot of the match in the 37th minute, taking the Bulldogs to a 1-0 lead going into the half.
TLU stepped up the offensive pressure going into the second half, taking 17 shots. Increasing the pressure certainly paid off for the Bulldogs when
Katie Morton scored in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0.
Morton scored off a long pass down the right side from junior midfielder
Aubrie Wells. It was Wells' first assist of the season.
The Bulldogs out shot the Pirates 23-9, making nine total shots on goal.
Stephanie Barrientos held strong in the goal, making two saves.
Play continues for the Bulldogs this Sunday as they travel to Austin, Texas for a non-conference match against Concordia University.
